About Us

The Board consists of:

  1. A Chairperson (with no pecuniary interested in hairdressing) who shall be appointed by the Governor.
  2. Four other persons, all appointed by the Governor, of whom each shall be a person who has at least three years experience either as a principal or as an employee (other than an apprentice) in any business involved in the practice of hairdressing.

Of the four persons so appointed:

  1. One shall be nominated by the Master Gentleman's Hairdresser's Association of WA Union of Employers;
  2. One shall be nominated by the Master Ladies Hairdressers Industrial Union of Employers of WA;
  3. Two, one of whom shall be nominated by the female employees and one by the male employees of the Hairdressers and Wigmakers Employees' Union of Workers.

Deputies of all of these positions are also appointed.

BOARD MEMBERS

David Hillyard - Chair
David Hillyard is the Director of Industry and Consumer Services in the Consumer Protection Division of the Department of Commerce.

David has over twenty nine years experience working in the Department. He commenced his career in Consumer Protection as a Complaints Officer in 1979, and since then has held various management and director positions.

As Director of Industry and Consumer Services, David is Chairperson of the Consumer Products Safety Committee, and over his time at Consumer Protection has been involved with various other committees including, the Fair Trading Officers Advisory Committee, Customer Services Committee and the Capital Works Steering Committee.

Terry Bright - Deputy Chair
Terry Bright has been self employed since 1984 as the Principal of TJ Bright and Associates - Marketing and PR Consultancy.

Terry is also the current Managing Director of Restaurants Caterers and Hotels Labour Hire Pty Ltd and past Executive Director of the Restaurant and Catering Industry Association of WA (Inc).

Terry has served on a number of Boards, Committees and task forces, including the Tourism Council of WA, Hospitality Group Training and Liquor Industry Council.

Barry Berger - Member
Barry Berger first began his hairdressing career in London. In 1967 he emigrated to Australia to continue his career. Barry has been in the industry both as a hairdresser and salon owner and, due to his vast hairdressing experience, brings a wealth of knowledge to the Board as a member. He is also the President of MLHA (Master Ladies Hairdressers Association).

Maureen Adlam- Member
Maureen Adlam is very active in the hairdressing trade and brings extensive knowledge of the industry to the Board. A salon owner for 25 years, life member of IHS and a current HRB examiner. Maureen is passionate about maintaining a high skill standard within the industry.

Gloria Ridolfo - Deputy Member
Gloria Ridolfo has been involved with the industry for 25 years as a hairdresser.  Her family has been involved with the industry for 3 generations, starting with her grandfather, then father, sister, brother and herself. Since qualifying as a tradesperson she has run successful businesses as well as being involved with The Master Gents Hairdressing Association where she acted as Vice President for approx. 8 years and then went on to Chair the Board for approx 3-4 years. Her aim towards her involvement with the industry is that she firmly believes in maintaining standards and holding the identity of both Men’s and Ladies hairdressing.

Pamela Hunter - Member
Pamela Hunter has over nine years experience working as a Senior Stylist for Pierrots Hair Studio in Kalamunda.

Between 1987 and 1991, Pamela designed and opened her own hair studio in Perth.

Pamela completed her apprenticeship in ladies hairdressing at Flair Hair Styling in South Perth in 1985 where she continued to work as a senior stylist for a further two years.

Ernest Grady - Deputy Member
Ernest Grady is a salon owner of House of Ernest and member of the Master Ladies Hairdressers Association.

Juliana Cavoli - Deputy Member
Juliana Cavoli has over 20 years experience working in the hairdressing industry. Over the years, Juliana has worked for various salons in Perth including, Bamby Hair Salon as Senior Hair Stylist, Blue Ginger Hair Salon as Manager, Top Crop Hair Salon as Senior Hair Stylist, and Hair Alibi Hair Salon as owner operator.

Juliana completed her apprenticeship in 1988 at the James Elizabeth Unisex Hair Salon.

Juliana is currently working for the City of Subiaco as Communication and Events Officer.

Lea Di Filippo - Deputy Member
Lea Di Filippo has worked as Principal Hair Stylist for Price Attack since 2008. From 2000 to 2008, Lea worked for Jazz Hair Studio as Principal Hair Stylist, and from 1979 to 2000 was Proprietor and Principal Hair Stylist for Gledden Hairdressing.

Lea completed her apprenticeship in 1978 obtaining a Certificate of Ladies Hairdressing, and in 2000 obtained a Certificate in Mens Hairdressing. Lea obtained the Inaugural Wella Service Excellence Award in 1989.

Our Inspectors, Bridget & Shirley visit all places where hairdressing takes place to ensure that hairdressers are registered and apprentices are properly supervised. Victor looks after most of the financial transactions that occur at the Board and Karen is the person you speak to when you have a query about your registration status or want to know when and where examinations will take place. Our receptionist Elena is the first point of contact on the telephone, and in our office. Amanda is our office manager and organises our Board meetings. Our Registrar, Les, oversees all operations of the Board. Les is a hairdressing professional.
