Our History

The Hairdressers Registration Board of Western Australia (HRBWA) was established by legislation that passed through Parliament in 1946.

The HRB by virtue of this legislation is a statutory authority totally funded by the industry and is regarded as a public authority not an agency of government. Its core function is to provide for registration of hairdressers and other purposes such as maintaining industry standards for the protection of consumers.

The Act and Regulations were proclaimed to come into operation on the 1st March 1948. (Publication of the Hairdressers Registration Act 1946 and Regulations 1965 can be obtained online from http://www.slp.wa.gov.au/). The first meeting of the Board was conducted on the 13th May 1948.
