Salon Inspection Procedure

I am sure you are aware the Hairdressers Registration Board of Western Australia (HRBWA) has a statutory obligation to conduct regular inspections. These are undertaken to ensure regulatory compliance with legislation, maintenance of standards within the industry, protection of consumers and for the protection of your hairdressing qualifications. The procedure outlined below is designed to streamline and minimise any inconvenience that may be experienced during the course of a routine inspections.

HRB PROCEDURE FOR SALON INSPECTIONS:

1. The Inspector will visit the salon without prior notice and show HRB identification. Refer to Section 11 (1) of the Hairdressers Registration Regulations.

2. The Inspector will ask to speak to the salon owner or the principal hairdresser in charge on the day of the visit.

3. The Inspector will ask to view the hairdresser's registration certificates and, on occasion, the appointment book and will then proceed to complete the salon inspection sheet. Refer to Section 11 (2) of the Hairdressers Registration Regulations.

4. If registration certificates are unavailable the Inspector will request all the details of those working in the salon from either the salon owner, nominated principal hairdresser or the individual in question. You should be aware that all Hairdressers have an obligation to produce their registration certificates upon the request by the Inspector, therefore originals or copies of the certificates should be kept in the salon inspection folder (to be provided to all salons by HRB).

5. All relevant and up to date information will be required for all hairdressing staff including apprentices and casual staff ie. Name, Address, Contact details, Type and Class of Registration held.

6. The Inspector will require full co-operation from the salon owner or principal hairdresser to assist in providing the information that is required by the Board for its records. Refer to Section 11 (3) of the Hairdressers Registration Regulations.

7. If a hairdresser is unregistered the Inspector will leave an application form which must be completed and returned to the Board by the unregistered hairdresser. The Inspector will always initiate a follow up procedure to ensure that the completed application form is forwarded to the HRBWA expeditiously (ie. 7 days). The Inspector will also follow up on any hairdresser who has been advised to add a class to their registration or change their type of registration to comply with the legislation.

8. The Inspector will be happy to answer questions from the salon owner or principal hairdresser in relation to the registration of staff, however anyny other enquiries should be directed to the HRB office on  9381 9966.

9. The inspection will conclude once the Inspector has obtained all of the necessary information that is required to report back to the Board.
