Benefits of Registration
There are numerous positive benefits in compulsory registration when practicing as a hairdresser in Western Australia (WA), however perhaps the THREE main benefits of registration are the following:
PROTECTION, AND RECOGNITION OF YOUR QUALIFICATIONS;
PROTECTION OF CONSUMERS; and
PROTECTION OF YOUR LIVELIHOOD
By having a pro-active Registration Board, you can be assured that your qualifications, livelihood and consumers are protected, as the Board endeavors to ensure that only fully qualified hairdressers practice hairdressing within our jurisdiction in Western Australia. The Board assesses the qualifications and work history of any person applying for their registration to ensure that they have at least the equivalent training to that of a WA Apprentice. This means that someone arriving from overseas or interstate who has very little hairdressing experience or little to no training is unable to practice as a hairdresser within the Board's jurisdiction. Potentially, this precludes unqualified people from opening a salon next to you and practicing as a hairdresser in an attempt to impact on your established clientele. If the Hairdressers Registration Board did not exist to enforce these regulations, there is the possibility that it could effect your LIVELIHOOD, devalue your QUALIFICATIONS and in turn, with no one to protect the CONSUMER, it could lower your professional image in the eyes of consumers and bring the industry into disrepute.
