Who may be Registered?
A person is entitled to be registered under this Act if and when the Board is satisfied that they:
- Are a person of good character;
- Has completed the appropriate prescribed course of training; and
- Has outside of Western Australia completed an appropriate course of training of a like standard as that prescribed in Western Australia and passes such examinations (if any) as may be required by the Board.
These applications are divided into three distinct groups:
- Western Australian applicants;
- Interstate and New Zealand applicants; and
- Overseas applicants
Western Australia
Applicants who trained in Western Australia and have been issued with a Western Australian Trade certificate are generally issued with registration on presentation of proof that they hold this qualification.
Interstate and New Zealand
Currently there is a reciprocal agreement for registration of applicants who have trained either in another state of Australia or in New Zealand. This reciprocity is reliant upon the applicant having completed a like standard of training as that of apprentices trained in Western Australia. If an applicant has not completed a like form of training, they may be required to undertake and pass theory and practical assessments.
Overseas
Applicants from overseas may also be required to undertake and pass a theory and practical assessment prior to their Registration being granted.
