Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)
The new Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) booklet has now been released. The booklet is titled "A Guide to the Safe Use of Salon Hair Products - Safety Data Sheets - dated September 2007. This new booklet replaces the old ‘red’ booklet from July 2002.
Contained in the new release are 14 safety data sheets (ie. The products/chemicals used in the industry are divided into 14 categories).
The new booklet has been produced by Kilford & Kilford consultants on behalf of Accord Australasia (Advocate for the Consumer Cosmetic Hygiene and Specialty Products Industry - www.accord.asn.au). This association represents 24 manufactures/brands.
Manufacturers represented in the booklet must supply their customers (salons) with a list specifying which data sheet in the booklet is relevant to each of their products. Salons should contact their suppliers to obtain a copy of the booklet and the list.
If salons use or purchase other products (that do not fall within the brands represented in the booklet), then they need to contact their suppliers, and obtain a Material Safety Data Sheet for these products.
Those salons that do use products represented in the booklet need to have the booklet and the list onsite.
