PROPOSED REFORMS FOR THE HAIRDRESSING INDUSTRY &
ABOLITION OF THE HAIRDRESSERS REGISTRATION BOARD
The Hon Troy Buswell BEc MLA, Minister for Commerce wrote to all registered hairdressers in mid 2009 about proposed reforms for the Hairdressing Industry in Western Australia.
Minister Buswell outlined the Government proposals to remove the requirement for hairdressers to be registered and to wind up the Hairdressers Registration Board. That proposal requires consideration and approval by Parliament before it can proceed and I confirm that the proposal has not as yet been submitted to Parliament.
Until Parliament considers the amending legislation the Board and the registration processes for hairdressers will continue on a “business as usual” basis as the timeframes for these reforms have not been set.
The Board will continue to enforce the law until there are any changes effected by Parliament and this will obviously entail processing renewal of registrations and assessing new entrants to the industry up until that time.
Should you have any questions regarding your registration or application for registration, please call the Board on 9381 9966.

David Hillyard
Chair of the Hairdressers Registration Board of WA
